Shooting Scheldule

This is our groups shooting scheldule which has the information on the dates that we are going to shot the certain shots, the location, the casting who are involved in the specific shot. Moreover, the props and cosutme are also written in detail so we know exactly what we are needing to be wearing for the specific shots and the equipment that we need. The reason why this is important is because, it allows us to know exactly where we are for each shot so we don't get confused and behind on what we are doing. Also having props and costume on the shooting scheldule is important as we can then know what we need to wear and what props will need to be brought in on certain days. For example the fake blood needs to be brought in on the 6th January.

Location Permission

These are the letters that our group have wrote out to send to the head teacher of the school, Mr Hume and the Sutton Council as we are asking for permission to film in the specific location that we have chose to film in for our opening sequence. In the letter we have explained that we are Glenthorne High School students currently studying media for one of our A Levels. We have also written about the genre that we have chose for our opening sequence, this is a good thing because we are explaining to Sutton Council and Mr Hume that the reason for us to film in this location is because the parts for our genre that we want to film are within these grounds. We have said how it will be an advantage to helping us with our filming and would help to give us the best grade as possible.

Props and Costume

The images of these shoes that Daniel who plays Tom will be wearing are representing the image that is going to be used in the opening sequence when clues and information is gradually given about the character. We are going to film this shoe to emphasise the distance that Tom is from his shoe which can make the audience wonder what has
actually happened. It is important that we use this specific shoe for the whole time of filming our opening sequence because this shoe is going to be a prop within the film that gives clues to the audience which can then build excitement.

This white shirt is going to be wore by Daniel throughout the opening sequence. This is because it is going to be used to represent that Tom has just finished school which shows the audience that he is a school boy. Moreover, it also shows that he takes pride in how he looks at school as a white shirt is known to be smart and is a student that follows the rules of the school and doesn't try to be different.

This picture is of the black jeans that Daniel will be wearing with his white shirt when playing his part in the opening sequence. The reason we have chose for him to wear this is because the black jeans with the white shirt show that he is a boy who goes to school and doesn't try to change the uniform and disobey the rules. In addition, it shows that he likes to look smart.

This phone is going to be used for when the alarm clock goes off which is the ending scene to our opening sequence. We have decided to use this through a graphic match when Tom moves his hand to stop the alarm clock. This is going to be effective for the audience as it emphasises the start of the day which the film will then be based around how it all started and what really happened to Tom!!

These are different angles and shots of the sink that myself and my group are going to be using for when the criminal is washing their hands with the blood running down the drain. The opening sequence starts of like this and this will build a lot of tension for the audience as they will want to find out what has happened. The reason why we decided to take a few shots of some of the things that will be within our film is because, it helps us to get an idea of what it will look like as we are filming and how easy the camera will be to use to take specific shots. An example of this is the sink and this is because, we are going to be zoomed right into the tap so its not clear to be a sink and then slowly zoom out. This has got to be effective and for us to take images with a camera we can see how it will kind of look and the best angles to take the shots at.

Casting

This is the main character in our film that we are creating. Daniel Zelnis will be playing the part of a young school boy called Tom, who constantly keeps on being bullied at school by a group of people who are the same age as him. He is a boy who likes to keep himself to himself and is quite quiet. He also takes a lot of pride in the way he looks at school and doesn't try to rebel against school rules like the bullies do. Moreover, he is very caring and wouldn't do anything that would hurt anyone else which makes it harder for him to understand why he is such a target for this bullies.

Moreover, these photos are showing the three girls including my part), who are the bullies of this young boy. They want to meet him after school one day, which then takes a bad turn as they beat him to the ground. These characters within the film don't leave him alone and find him an easy target to pick on which progresses and leads to things ending badly.

Throughout the opening sequence the identity of these four characters are hidden but clues are given gradually to the audience. During the opening sequence, the audience don't know the reason for this boy to be beaten up, the audience will feel sympathy however it will then turn into excitement and build tension for them, to watch the rest and find out more about the characters and how they know each other. For the audience not to know a lot about these characters and the relationships between them is a good thing because they will be interested in sticking with the film to find out more. After the beating one of the main things that the audience will want to know is the question 'why?' 'why have they done this to him?'

Animatics

This is the Animatic that myself and my group had created, this is so we can get an idea of what our opening sequence is going to look like. This is very useful as it lets us see if the shots go well together, if the music matches the theme and how long roughly the opening sequence is. We created this by using the photos that we draw on our storyboards, as we then put then together in the specific order. In addition the music we have chose for this does go well with the sequence in the sense that it gradually builds up which is effective as it will be building tension and excitement for the audience. In this animatic we have been able to add in the titles over the shots, this allows us to see that the titles could be kept on for a bit longer so the audience are able to see them clearly.

As you can see from the beginning of this sequence we have the distribution company logo and we have decided to choose Lionsgate for this. The reason for this is because they have a history of being involved with thriller movies which is perfect for relating to the thriller we have chosen.

Our feedback that we got from other groups about are animatics were that we should make the titles last for longer on the screen and slow them down. I agree with this feedback because if the titles are too quick then the audience won't get the chance to be able to read them properly which doesn't make it very effective. One of the important titles that the audience may want to see is the main character's name. Another reason for the titles to be at a bit of a slower pace is because the titles are on the screen with the shots and the filming, so the audience will automatically be watching the scenes but can also look at the titles too however if the titles go too quick they will be distracted by the filming so won't get a chance to see them. From the feedback that myself and my group got we have made the change to make the titles appear on screen a bit more slowly and longer.

Main Character

As a group we have decided our man character to look like this in the scenes that we are going to be creating. This is because, his white shirt shows that he is a school boy and takes pride in his uniform. His outfit emphasises that he is a boy that is older than his years and his not cocky or with an attitude like the stereotypical 15 year old boy is. By his uniform it shows that he wants to blend in with the other students at his school and not bring attention to himself by rebelling with his fashion. In addition the black trousers emphasise this even more as the majority of school students wear plain black trousers. His hair is going to be jelled and this is going to represent that he likes to look smart at school and takes pride in how he represents himself. His body language in the opening sequence is going to show that he isn't a loud boy who likes to bring attention to himself instead he is quiet and mature.

Storyboard

This is the first set of shots that myself and my group have came up wit for the opening sequence of our thriller film. As you can see the first image is of a black screen but it is going to have the sounds of water dripping in the background. We decided to keep the screen as plain black to emphasise the sound to the audience and so the audience doesn't get distracted but focuses on the dripping noises. These sounds are going to be used to represent the blood dripping into the sink. There are a variety of other shots in this storyboard, these images are the build up of tension for the audience as it is showing someone washing the blood of their hands, however the shots are hiding the full identity of this person. This gives more of an excitement to the audience as it will make them wonder what has happened and can also make them feel as though they are involved.

The two shots in this storyboard is showing one close up of the blood running down the drain, this emphasises that something bad has happened like a crime, this will also keep the audience interested in the film. The second shot is a long shot which is showing the audience three people walking away but only showing the bank of them as to build more tension myself and my group wanted to withhold as much identity as possible.

This storyboard is showing the different images that are going to be used for the flashing images clip. There is a range of different angles and shots of different parts of the injured persons body like the leg, face etc. This makes it more interesting for the audience as flashing images are quite a unique technique to use but also very effective as it is giving the audience clues about this character.

This storyboard has two photos which is showing the setting of where the main character gets beaten up by  his bullies. This is a good thing to have in an opening sequence as it gives the audience clues on what the film could be about and where it could be based around. In addition the other images are showing the three people again who have beaten up this boy but still the back of them but in a closer shot. The next clips are close ups of half of each of the bullies face, we have decided to do this as it shows the audience parts of the bullies but doesn't give the full identity of their faces away.

This is the last storyboard, which is showing a hand with blood dripping off and this emphasises that one of these three people have been the one to cause the blood from the main character. The two other shots are of an iPhone which is used for an alarm clock to represent that the film is going to go back in time to show the audience what really happened to the boy
